Penang Working Group

The Penang Working Group is a collaborative initiative which brings together different stakeholders in Penang to share, discuss and find common solutions to the many issues facing refugees in Penang and Malaysia.

It is an informal grouping comprising of refugee leaders, representatives from different NGOs, persons from various Learning Centres (providing education for refugee children) and other individuals working with/for refugees in Penang. UNHCR participation has been significant too.

Under the Penang Working Group, recent collaborative workshops to brainstorm issues around child protection for refugees in Penang have resulted in a number of collaborative, on-going initiatives.

The Penang Working Group is part of our commitment to a collaborative way of working. This is where different partners and groups join to celebrate collective strengths and the value of sharing. It is also a way of expressing our mutual support for the work each person and group is doing, in the highly challenging environment in which refugees find themselves in Malaysia.
